Our Final Hours Together in Florence

For Robbie's last day in Italy we decided to spend the day in Florence, "our city in Italy".

We started the day with a climb up the Duomo- the big church of the city. We got there early to avoid crowds and the heat of the day. It was an interesting climb up some 450+ stairs through small hallways and around the interior of the large dome. It was amazing to see some of the artwork of the dome up close and personal. Once on the top we enjoyed a breathtaking view of beautiful Florence. It truly is the best view in town. It was a great way to start our last day together in Italy. From the top we could look at all the neighborhoods that we had gotten to know over the two weeks of adventures together.

Next we made our way to the leather market for people watching and last minute souvenirs. The leather market feels like the heartbeat of Florence. When the vendors are up and working, so is the rest of the city. Once they are closed, the rest of the city relaxes and enjoys themselves. The market probably has the most action of the town, except for maybe the Ufizzi art gallery- probably one of the greatest galleries in all of Italy if not Europe.

For our evening we decided it was time to enjoy the lights of the city and a nice Italian dinner from our friends Lisa & Kim (Thanks so much!!). We took off for Piazzale Michaelangelo, one of the first view points that we visited together, and brought a bottle of wine to go with the view. It was perfect. We could see all of Florence lit up and musicians sat on the stairs performing for all the onlookers. (See pictures above)

We finished off the evening with an amazing dinner at Restaurante Capellini off of piazza Signore, one of our favorite squares to spend the evenings to people watch and see musicians perform.
We enjoyed appetizers of bread and salami and minestrone soup, then moved onto Bisteca Fiorentini (steak) with salad and roasted asparagus. Delicious!! For dessert we shared a slice of almond cake and espresso-scrumptious!

It was a perfect last day together in a city that we loved.
